Sinopse: Durante uma tempestade de neve, Candy e Amy são abandonadas na porta de um orfanato, o Lar Poney, administrado pela senhora Poney e pela Irmã Maria. As duas crianças cresceram juntas e se tornaram grandes amigas.
Candy White era uma menina muito alegre e aprontava mil travessuras, ao contrário de Amy, que era tímida e medrosa. O melhor amigo da garota era um guaxinim muito carinhoso.
No dia em que completava dez anos, uma família rica se interessou por Candy, porém ela não quis abandonar sua amiga e o orfanato. Candy fez de tudo para a família desistir dela, o que acabou acontecendo.
A exemplo de outros desenhos, Candy Candy utiliza o formato de novela. E com final feliz. No último capítulo, ela é adotada pela família do namorado.
